Mercedes-Benz Blue-Tec diesel ML500
At GB Autos, we service a range of European vehicles, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Volvo, and Saab. Recently, a customer came in with a 2014 Mercedes-Benz Blue-Tec diesel ML500 that had an indicator light regarding Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). This technology is known as AdBlue, and it reduces emissions of diesel engines by reducing the NOx concentrations. In a recent standardization published in ISO 22241-4 in October 2009, Mercedes-Benz is the first manufacturer to implement this into their diesel SUVs.
At GB Autos, we keep up to date with service technology and have the OEM-DEF fluid in stock. We poured about 25 liters of fluid into the exhaust-fluid tank, and he was off. The next day, he called in and shared that an indicator light began displaying. The indicator light stated that the car would shut off at 200 km. We inspected the whole system, and we tried to reset the indicator light but had no luck. With our network in the community, we sent the car over to Mercedes to see what the issue was. After a quick inspection, the fluid topped off correctly; the only problem was a common bug in the firmware, which caused the light to come on and stay on prematurely. Naturally, the DEF light is supposed to turn off when the fluid tank is complete, but due to technical issues on the dealer side, simple situations get complicated. The increased use of electronics makes quality service shops require premium diagnostic tools to monitor and inspect all codes stored in electronic memory. At GB Autos, you can trust our industry knowledge, community connections, and commitment to quality for your Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Volvo, and Saab maintenance and repairs.
